Scrappy Handspun Art Yarn

We’ve salvaged every last one of our scraps from the Unfettered Warehouse: the tail ends of balls, samples, unused bits from wrapping, and operational offcuts. Any fibre left over from our operations is put in a bin and collected for Nicole. She then performs what can only be called magic. By chopping and blending, Nicole creates a specialty batt of yarn sprinkled with pops of surprising colour and texture throughout. She then slowly handspins a bobbled art yarn bursting with personality. Fibrous discards that would otherwise produce waste are instead chopped and spun into a gloriously unique fibre that tells a different tale of repurposing with every twist.

Simply Fibre by Nicole is a Vancouver Island (Victoria, BC) based boutique business. Thoughtfully owned and operated by Nicole Barnaby, Simply Fibre is a one-woman powerhouse in the Indie Dyeing and Spinning community. Nicole is a healthcare worker by day, and fibre artist by night. In partnership with Unfettered Art & Supply, Nicole has been tackling dyer’s challenge of revamping and re-inventing our surplus inventory. Most fibre dyers begin with new fibre, but Nicole is working through the added layer of complexity that comes with repurposing colours and materials that are always in flux.

Sustainability is at the core of this partnership. By lending her skill to the upcycling of stagnant inventory, Simply Fibre by Nicole is helping us develop our zero-waste policy while equipping customers with unusual, striking, nuanced colourways.  And by supporting Nicole’s creative business, Unfettered Art & Supply is funding our local eco-system of women-owned indie businesses in the fibre community.
